Financial/Environmental proposal

Dear Michelle Donelan,
Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself and the reason I am addressing you. I am writing this letter to express my concerns about the environment, and its impact on us students of Brunel University London and other young adults who share the same concerns about the world's future. As a student living on campus, I have come to notice that the institution squanders an enormous amount of power/energy in keeping facilities running unused. The official website of Brunel University states that 33% of the total expenditure is spent on operating expenses. This brings me to my proposal to include universities to the Emissions Trading System (ETS), which will also offer an interesting financial proposition that could be used to reduce tuition fees. By implementing more green energy and reducing unnecessary power usage, the percentage of energy saved can be traded with other universities, even companies, adding a new source of revenue. This money made can be redirected to reduce tuition fees while also making a contribution to the environmental crisis. As of the last few years, universities have started to focus more on joining the fight alongside their students to reduce carbon emissions, and Brunel University has already set out a plan to do so, as stated in their official website under environment. This perfectly paves the ground for our environmental/financial proposal where we can influence even more universities to take action. And the leverage you've gained as a government official allows you to present this proposal to the experts in this matter who can help us bring this to reality. Sincerely, Markela Gega.
