I am urging The Right Honorable Lord Bethell to change the covid policy regarding hotel quaratine in the United Kingdom, showing him the circumstance of thousands of foreign students from low-income backgrounds who cannot visit or receive their family members in the UK.

Dear Lord Bethell,
It is with great regret that I received your letter addressed to Andy Slaughter, the person who represents me in parliament. It saddens me that you have written a long letter about the current policies in place in the United Kingdom regarding covid procedures and specifically hotel quarantines for red-list country citizens. The point is not wether the population of this country can afford or not the hotel quarantine, it is a rather social-political issue where nationals of Europe and America are being put in front of the queue for coming from wealthy nations. Surely, the vaccines approved in the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom are in no way different than those that some residents are receiving in red-list countries. My mother is both an Italian citizen and a Brazilian citizen, she currently resides in Brazil. The price for a hotel quarantine at the moment in the UK is £2285 per person. This is an extortionate amount for someone who has had the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. A citizen of a country does not necessarily is a citizen of a country where they reside. When is the UK government understand that? You had the audacity to mention instalment plans for UK residents who are struggling financially. This is an attack to democracy and to working-class people. This is the equivalent to seventeen minimum wages in Brazil, in a country with a per capita income of US$7000,00. How do you expect a lower-middle class person to afford such high fees? I urge to change this policy, it has caused great distress to me and my family members. Not every international student in the UK is wealthy. Regards,
